The Highland Park High School Giants hosted the GLASA Falcons at Centennial Ice Arena on Thursday, March 12, 2015 for a co-mingled scrimmage. It was good competition and exciting down to the wire. The "Away" team pulled goalie in the final minute for an added chance to tie the game. And although they had some chances, they just couldn't put the puck in the net. It was a fun night for all. Nina Nissly, GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Team forward, earns a spot on U.S. Women's Sled Hockey Team for the second year in a row! Justin Kreger, RIC Blackhawks A Team goaltender, who began his sled hockey career with the GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Team, was named to the U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team. Justin was flawless in his debut, earning a three-game sweep over the Canadian Developmental Sled Team in Etobicoke, Ontario. Words from the general manager and head coach of Justin's developmental team: "We are excited about the talent level in the U.S. and the growth of sled hockey throughout the country," said Jeremy Kennedy, general manager of the U.S. National Development Sled Hockey Team. "Competition was fierce at both the Sled Select Camp and the Paralympic Team Try-outs." "With the 2014 U.S. Paralympic Team set, we are 100% focused on developing players for the 2018 Paralympics," said Mike MacMillan, head coach of the 2013-14 U.S. National Development Sled Hockey Team. "Having players transition from the development team to the national and Paralympic team, is a true testament that the development program is on track in developing future Paralympians" Congratulations Nina and Justin! GLASA Falcons Youth Hockey Team hosted the Hornets for a friendly scrimmage game at Hot Shot Ice Arena on Sunday, February 24. A. Backus made his BIG debut in net for the GLASA Falcons and his teammates were able to come from behind to tie the game at 3 to 3 in the third period. Despite the late surge by the Falcons, the Hornets were able to battle back and score the winning goal with only a few minutes left in game. GLASA Falcons battled hard again in the offensive zone but could not put the puck away before the clock ran out. Congratulations Hornets! GLASA is looking forward to a rematch in 2013-14!

The GLASA Falcons hosted the RIC Blackhawks B Team - known as the Blizzards - for a rematch at Hot Shot Ice Arena on Sunday, February 17. Patrick Byrne, USA Paralympic Gold medalist, was on hand to coach the Blizzards to victory but the GLASA Falcons proved to be too much to handle, skating to a 4 to 1 win. It was a great game...some of the best competition of the year! GLASA Falcons are hoping to face off with the Blizzards a couple more times before heading to national in March. Congratulations GLASA Falcons!
The USA Warriors - a national sled team of wounded veterans - faced off with the GLASA Falcons at the Edge II Ice Arena in Bensenville on Friday, February 15. GLASA Falcons could tell by the size of the players in the lobby that they were about to face off with a very tough team. The Warriors motto "None Tougher" sure was the case on Friday. The Warriors skated to a 6 to 1 victory over the GLASA Falcons. Despite the loss, the GLASA Falcons enjoyed the fierce competition. It was an honor and privilege to compete against the bravest men in the country - those who give so much for all of us! Congratulations and thank you! GLASA Falcons look forward to seeing the Warriors at nationals in March! In the meantime, we're told the Warriors rounded off their weekend with at night at the Blackhawks game, a sled game against the RIC Blackhawks A team at Soldier Field, some Chicago-style pizza and more! They truly enjoyed the various invitations, stellar hospitality and give thanks to all!

GLASA Falcons' Ben Spengel, parents Keith and Trish and brother, Dane presented a check in the amount of $5,000.00 to the GLASA Falcons at Hot Shot Ice Arena on Sunday, February 17 just before puck drop against the RIC Blackhawks B team. Ben raised this money last summer at a track & field event that he started in McHenry county to raise awareness of adaptive sports. Patrick Byrne, USA Paralympic Gold medalist, was on hand to honor Ben for a job well done. Patrick and Ben teamed at the event, along with support from GLASA and many other sponsors, to make this event a reality. Congratulations and thank you, Spengel Family!
The Notre Dame Varsity and JV teams hosted the GLASA Falcons on Saturday, January 26 at the Iceland Skate Complex in Niles. The GLASA Falcons co-mingled their team with Notre Dame's for four periods of competition - two with Varsity and two with JV. Special thanks to Notre Dame for provided two hours of ice, a chuck-a-puck contest between games and donating $167.27 in proceeds to benefit the GLASA Falcons. GLASA athletes enjoyed a keepsake mug and puck to take home and look forward to a rematch in 2013-14. Thank you Notre Dame!

The GLASA Falcons skated to a 3 to 1 victory over the Hornets, securing the first-ever win against the Hornets in the past five years. Congratulations GLASA Falcons! The GLASA Falcons and Falcons Midget A co-mingled their teams to compete in a friendly scrimmage game at Hot Shot Ice Arena in Lake Bluff on Sunday, January 13. The GLASA Falcons kicked off the 2012-13 season with a 2 to 0 victory over Lake Forest Academy's (LFA's) Prep Team on Saturday, October 13. Special thanks to LFA for hosting the GLASA Falcons in conjunction with its Parent Weekend. Many spectators were introduced to the great game of sled hockey, GLASA and adaptive sports. Certainly an impressive start to an exciting season ahead!

The Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) Falcons Sled Hockey Team kicks off its 2012-2013 season Sunday, October 7 and is seeking youth and adult volunteers to help facilitate weekly practice at Hot Shot Ice Arena (HSIA).
Equipment Assistant: help players get to and from the locker room, outfitted with gear and ready for on-ice play. Accepting volunteers 12 years and older. No hockey skill required.
SHIFT 1: 2:45 – 4:30 PM
SHIFT 2: 4:30 – 6:00 PM
On-Ice Assistant: help push and/or mentor sled hockey players on ice during practice and/or scrimmage play. Accepting volunteers 14 years and older who are proficient skaters with hockey background. Hockey skates, helmet, gloves and hockey attire required (warm ups or jersey, etc. – no jeans, please).
SHIFT 1: 3:15 – 5:00 PM
SHIFT 2: 5:00 – 6:00 PM

Spengel (his first of the year!!!), strong team play throughout the game and a stellar effort in net by D. Melchiorre! Way to go GLASA Falcons!

The GLASA Falcons traveled to Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, February 18 to play the Madison Warriors' youth team. The GLASA Falcons skated to a 3 to 1 victory and enjoyed a team dinner celebration at Babe's following the game! Great effort GLASA Falcons!
The GLASA Falcons give thanks to the Lake Forest High School (LFHS) Varsity team for raising over $3,200.00 for GLASA!.... On December 18, the LFHS Varsity presented the GLASA Falcons with four new sleds at an on-ice presentation, followed by a friendly scrimmage game and post-game pizza party at Lake Forest College. Thanks to donations like this one, GLASA's continued success is certain! Thank you, LFHS Varsity!
As for game highlights...the LFHS Varsity came ready to play and defend their title from last season....and although they had plenty of scoring chances....the GLASA Falcons skated to a 3 to 0 victory!

The GLASA Falcons hosted the Falcons Bantam Majors at Hot Shot Ice Arena on Sunday, January 29 skating to an 6 to 1 victory. The game puck went to #36 T. East for his amazing top-shelf goal from the point! And although the Bantam Majors created plenty of scoring chances, stellar goaltending by #1 D. Melchiorre stopped the Bantam Major at the goal line on all but one shot. Credit goes to M. Moderwell for the loan Bantam goal with an assist from T. Mulier. GLASA Falcons commended the Bantam Majors for closing the gap left behind the previous week by the Midget Majors' 8 to 0 loss! Way to go Bantam Majors! Great victory GLASA Falcons!

On Sunday, January 15, the GLASA Falcons welcomed the RIC Blackhawks "B" team to Hot Shot Ice Arena (HSIA) for a friendly scrimmage game. #14 Patrick Byrne, USA Paralympic Gold medalist, was in the house! The GLASA Falcons skated to victory, which fueled the RIC Blackhawks' desire to come back to HSIA this season on Sunday, March 4 for a rematch. Come out at see a Paralympic Gold medalist in action! We proudly welcome Coach Fritz as head coach of the GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey TeamFHA proudly welcomes Tony Fritz to our coaching line up as head coach of the GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Team. Coach Fritz recently retired from Lake Forest College (LFC) after 32 years at the helm of the men’s hockey team. In his tenure, Coach Fritz posted 351 career hockey victories and is ranked among the top 50 in NCAA history. Coach Fritz also led LFC’s soccer team to victory, accumulating 145 wins and eight conference titles in 16 seasons. His 496 combined-sport victories are the most by any coach in LFC history.
