MIGHTY MITES, MITES AND SQUIRTS players and families!  We hope you enjoyed our first ever FALCON DRAFT BLAST SKATING PARTY – I'd also like to thank all the volunteers that made this happen!  Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to Falcon's Hockey!!

Rosters are posted.  A few things to remember:

Sizing and distribution of jerseys - jerseys will be distributed to the kids this weekend.  The priority when the coaches distribute jerseys is appropriate sizing.  I know many kids have a preferred number, but please bear in mind that jerseys are to be handed out first by size, then by numbers.  We cannot guarantee any particular number to any player.  Please reinforce this with your child.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Names of Jerseys - Please no player names on jerseys until Thanksgiving.  It is the goal of the Falcons to make equally competitive teams at each level.  As such, names cannot be put on jerseys till Thanksgiving and the Hockey Director reserves the right to make roster changes.

2011-12 House League Season

As we anxiously await the start of our 2011-2012 House League Season, I wanted to take a moment to personally welcome back all returning families and also welcome the new families to our Falcons Hockey program. We are looking forward to another great year of Falcon’s hockey!

We are presently finalizing the schedule and it will be posted as soon as possible.  See above for the scheduling framework, including start dates.

Please note- full equipment is required for all preseason skates (see link at bottom of page for equipment list) and the player must be registered for the season.

Training (evaluation) Camps will provide our hockey staff with the opportunity to properly evaluate the kids in order to select balanced and competitive teams. We will then go right into team practices and games. We understand it is difficult to make all of the open hockey and training camp sessions, but please do your best to attend as many as possible, especially the training camps.

Your one registration fee takes care of all preseason clinics / camps.  Once you are registered for the season you are all set.  There is no need to register for any preseason clinic/camp again.  This is all included in the one-time registration.

Following training camps the rosters for all teams will be posted on the website soon after evaluations have been completed.  There will not be any extra fees for these sessions for registered players. Registration is NOW OPEN.

Following team selections, the coaches for each team will be contacting the parents to introduce themselves. We will also be advising when we will have a short parent meeting for each level. We will be reviewing the season schedule and answer any questions you may have at that time.

Please show up 30 minutes early for registration before your player's first skate.

Please find the Training (evaluation) Camp schedule using the tags in the calendar (posted by late summer) for the different age levels and last name brackets. We will be posting the team schedules for all levels as we get closer to the beginning of the season. Please note these times are subject to change so please continue to check the Falcons' website weekly.

FALCONS HOUSE HOCKEY

Director. The House League is under the direction of Ed Rascati, Vice President-House League in conjunction with the Director of Hockey, Tom Miller. The Director is responsible for the development, organization, and supervision of on-ice hockey programs. He is also responsible for directing the activities of the Staff Professionals and parents appointed as Coaches, team representatives.

Coaches. House League teams are coached by volunteer parents selected by the Vice President-House League and the Director of Hockey. Each team usually has a head-coach and two assistants. Coaches usually coach their own child’s team. Coaches are required to attend coaching clinics that are conducted during the season.   If you would like to coach, please indicate under the Volunteer section of the Registration form.  Please keep in mind that coaching youth sports is a privilege and the goals of Falcon’s House Hockey are to teach the skills of hockey, sportsmanship and to foster a love of the game.

NEW- All coaches will be required to go through the newly developed Falcon Coaching Certificate Program, scheduled for OCTOBER 16 (NEW DATE) - Time to be announced.

Player Draft/Team Size. After evaluation of the skills of each player by the Staff Professionals, players are “drafted” onto teams. Skaters are rated based on their ability and teams are selected such that we create team parity at the beginning of the season.

The size and number of teams in each age level will depend on the number of skaters participating each year. Ideally, each team would consist of 12-16 players, and each age division would contain at least four teams.
Team Parent/manager. Each House League team selects a Team Parent/manager. The responsibilities of the Team Parent include: communications between the coaches and the players (unless conducted by the coach); organizing and overseeing team functions, including team photos, team parties, and the Falcons’ fundraisers. Please advise your head coach if you would like to be a Team Parent.

Player Registration:
Please register your player on the Falcons Registration Site for the 2011/2012 Season.
 Registration Link
Also, note that you will need to obtain a USA Hockey registration number prior to registering your player. This is not a Falcons Rule but one imposed by USA Hockey. Your player will not be permitted on the ice for any clinics or tryouts without this registration.

Age Categories:
We will be fielding teams in the following age division for the upcoming season:
Age Division
Birth Year
Mighty Mites
2005 and younger
Mites
2003/2004
Squirt

Additional info is available via usahockey.com here -

If you have any questions, please see the above contact list and contact the appropriate House Board Member.  Thank you again for participating in the Falcon program and I look forward to meeting you and your kids throughout the year.

Peewees and Bantams also participate in NSYHL playoffs.  However, we do not have details of the NSYHL plans yet.  Last year we did not receive those details until late January or early February.  Typically the NSYHL playoffs run from mid-February to mid-March.

My son/daughter is just starting out – is there a place for him/ her?
Absolutely! The goals of the House Program are to have fun and to learn the game of hockey. Everyone is welcomed!

Equipment?  What about Equipment??
Please see the link at the bottom of the page to download an Equipment Checklist

Does everyone play equally? What if my son/daughter is not as good as other kids?
As above, the goals of our House program are to have fun and learn this great game. Our philosophy is that all the kids play equally.
Is there an opportunity for additional ice time throughout the season?
Depending upon ice availability we look forward to having power skating and/or open hockey throughout the season – again depending on ice availability.
Is there a House Multi-Player Discount Policy
Families with three or more participants in the 2011-2012 Falcon hockey season will receive a $250 discount against their paid fees.   The discount will be paid in the form of a check from the Falcon Hockey Association on or about December 1, 2011.   We do not have the ability to issue credit on credit cards.

Can I sign up my child with a friend?
Yes, friend requests are accepted, but please keep in mind our goal is to make equally balanced and competitive teams.  As a result, not all requests may be met.
Can I help with the Falcons?
Yes! The Falcons are a volunteer run organization and we are always looking for good people to help. If you have an interest in assisting you may contact our Executive Vice President, Marty Phelps at martyphelps@falconshockey.org.

Where can I get additional information on the House program?
You may contact Ed Rascati directly at rascati@falconshockey.org.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN FALCON’S HOCKEY!

[1] These informal sessions are to provide the kids with the opportunity to just get back on the ice in a safe and supervised setting.

[2] Training Camps are used to evaluate the players in order to make equally competitive and balanced teams.

HOUSE COACHING PHILOSOPHY

Equal ice time for all – please, no short bench – everyone must play.  You can put out your who you want in the last minute and a half or so – but that is it.

2-     Please always be present in the locker room – if at all possible, two adults should be present.  Do not tolerate ill behavior from the kids. We must provide a safe environment.  You can take ice time away for bad behavior.

3-     Sharing of players is not allowed unless you have less than 10 skaters.  If you have a problem let me know, but we can’t just ‘borrow’ other rostered players to beef up our lineup.  If a coach does contact you to borrow someone, please refer them to me.

Our House organizational goals are to teach, have fun and provide a safe environment.  I’m sure each and every one of you would be very disappointed to learn of a kid not coming back to hockey because of a bad experience with you as the coach.

Any questions regarding coaching - please do not hesitate to contact Ed Rascati, VP of House directly.

USA Hockey Approves Checking Change

USA Hockey has approved the Progressive Checking Skill Development Program.  The rule change that moved the age of legal body checking in games from 12+Under (Pee Wee) to 14+Under (Bantam) passed with 88% approval.
